Choice of Games’ Choice Of The Dragon Lets You Live Life As A Fire-Breathing Reptile

choiceofthedragon

Choice of Games, in spite of the strange monicker, is, and I quote, a ‘small partnership dedicated to producing high-quality, text-based, multiple-choice games’ and the people responsible for the numerous ‘Choice of’ titles populating the Amazon App Store.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. They’re probably really bad, the sort of game you shouldn’t bother poking at even if they are free. After all, there aren’t any good precedents in the Amazon App Store just yet. But, you know what? They’re actually really, really good. I wouldn’t hand Choice of Games a Pulitzer Prize. anytime soon but they could probably earn a living manufacturing novels for the public.

Unless I’m mistaken, Choice Of The Dragon was the first game in the series. As you might have guessed from the title, Choice of the Dragon is all about life as a massive, fire-breathing mythological lizard. If you’ve played any of those old ‘choose-your-own-adventure’ books, you’re going to feel right at home with The Choice of the Dragon. It works on similar principles. However, unlike a Lone Wolf book, you won’t be able to predetermine your statistics. Instead, you’ll have to first go through a rather elaborate prologue where you’ll be quizzed on everything from the colour of your scales to your preferences for princes or princesses. The statistics are also fairly well-balanced. If you’re brutal, you won’t have any sense of finesse. If you’re cunning, honor will not be something you’re known for.

Needless to say, these characteristics are not static. With every action you take in the game, they’ll fluctuate and change. At times, this won’t mean much. Other times, however, this can cost you a mate.

No, there are no reptilian sex scenes but yes, Choice of the Dragon will go there. Asides from harvesting tributes from unsuspecting bipeds, fighting for territory and gunning down knights, you’ll also eventually find yourself searching for a life partner. There are no save points so you won’t be able to retrace your steps and hope for a better future. Fortunately, however, the game is short enough that you could possibly finish one incarnation before attempting something new with the next.

For the low, low cost of absolutely nothing at all, Choice of the Dragon is about as brilliant as it gets. Pick it up at the Amazon App Store.
